Guest Lecture: Vlasta Nussdorfer
On 5 February 2020, we were honoured to welcome a special guest who was at our school to talk about her work. Ms Vlasta Nussdorfer started her talk by introducing herself as the former Ombudsman for Slovenia, meaning that she was the state defender of human rights for our country. She explained that she had to get confirmed by parliament before starting her work which was focused on making sure that nobody’s rights were violated. To help us understand the type of work, we were told about some different examples connected to our own lives at school and home.
We got a chance to hear about how Ms Nussdorfer achieved such an important place in society. She told us how she always liked public speaking as a child and went on to study law at university.
Although her time as Ombudsman has come to an end, Ms Nussdorfer is now an advisor to the Slovenian president so she still has an important role in public life. With this public role in mind, she put forward some ideas and opinions about what we see and read in the media and about different characteristics of the Slovenian people.
With a lot of important information and some funny anecdotes, everyone really enjoyed hearing Ms Nussdorfer’s lecture and we would like to thank her for taking the time to come and speak to us.
