Book Club: Halloween 2016
As has become traditional for this time of year, Gimnazija Vič Book Club organised a special event to celebrate Halloween. As well as current students and mentors, we were very pleased to welcome back some former students who had enjoyed such occasions and projects during their time at our school and who wished to continue with such important book club traditions.
Going along with our regular idea of marking important anniversaries and occasions connected to the world of books and reading, our 2016 event allowed us to commemorate the life and works of Roald Dahl. As well as a short discussion with some students about our favourite books from Dahl, we watched the 1990 film version of his classic tale, The Witches.
After the film, the audience divided up into teams for our annual Halloween Quiz of Horrors. While enjoying some delicious refreshments, the teams were asked questions based on Halloween customs and celebrations, popular horror films, and the sort of spooky books we enjoy reading at this time of year.
The quiz was incredibly close all the way through but special congratulations must go to the Pumpkin Spice team who ended up victorious on the evening.
In addition, a special mention must go to those first year students who worked hard to produce a range of material connected to Halloween which was put together as a special display for the event. Those who saw this presentation made very positive comments about the creative skills and original ideas on show.
Thanks to everyone who turned up to enjoy this special Book Club occasion which got us all in the right mood for enjoying and making the most of the Halloween season.
