Science Olympiad 2023

In June 2023, a group of Gimnazija Vič students attended the Genius Olympiad under the mentorship of two teachers from our school, Ms Alenka Mozer and Mr Jure Ausec.

The Genius Olympiad is an internationally renowned competition revolving around environmental issues. The organisers are Terra Science and Education and this year’s competition took place at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

We are delighted to say that we brought home one gold and two bronze medals.

• Ela Podboršek and Tim Strnad, 3C
  Gold medal for: “Advanced superhydrophobic coatings based on modified silica nanoparticles deposited on glass and aluminium surface”
• Maša Bratkovič and Zoja Jesih, 3B
  Bronze medal for: “Designed sensors of viral activity based on re-engineered innate immunity components”
• Olimpia Kupljen and Livija Pirc, 3.e
  Bronze medal for: “Effect of monocarboxylic acids on properties of metal-organic frameworks”

Our mentor, Ms Alenka Mozer, was given a special award for having achieved such great success with her mentorship of students for a number of years.

The Slovenian delegation was also represented by a student from Velenje, who was the winner of the Business category.

We would like to thank all those who took time to help our students with their work for this competition. The successes would not have been possible without the dedication of the teachers from our own school and the mentors from other educational institutions in Slovenia.
