ERASMUS+ 3rd International meeting - REYKJAVIK
As part of the Erasmus+ Involve Me & I Learn project, Iceland hosted the 3rd Erasmus+ meeting in September 2015. On Tuesday, 15th September 2015 we first flew to Frankfurt and later to Reykjavik. We landed with no trouble at about noon-time. We took the bus to the centre of the town where we met our host families. Later we walked around the park and visited one of the local swimming pools. After returning to our hosts, we were able to see the natural phenomenon Aurora borealis.
On Wednesday morning we participated in different sport and social activities. While we were enjoying ourselves our teachers had a meeting where they discussed future plans for the project. In the afternoon we were supposed to go whale watching, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to bad weather. Instead of that we organised a picnic with Icelandic candy.
Thursday was a very adventurous day. We drove around the island following the ‘Golden Circle’ route. After two hours of driving we arrived at the spot where they had filmed a popular series Game Of Thrones. Later on, we drove a little bit more and stopped at the geysers. We walked around and enjoyed the pleasure of being frightened by unexpected eruptions. Our last stop was a waterfall called Gullfoss, where we admired the beautiful waterfall and we were also able to see a majestic glacier on the horizon. After the trip we relaxed at the local spa centre called 'The Blue Lagoon'. We enjoyed the hot water and healing face masks.
On Friday morning we attended the first school lesson at their school and later we went on a tour around the town. And finally, after the tour and free time, we sailed to the open sea where we watched whales in their natural habitat. The whole trip lasted for about 4 hours and we also saw dolphins. In the evening most of us went souvenir shopping, but some of us enjoyed the last evening in the company of our hosts. Saturday began later than most of the days there. At 9.30 we drove to the bus station where we waited for the bus which took us to the airport. The goodbye from the host families was sad and some of us shed a tear or two. We returned to Ljubljana in the early morning hours on Sunday and the unforgettable Icelandic story ended.
