ERASMUS+ 4th International meeting - ATHENS

As part of the Erasmus+ Involve Me & I Learn project, we travelled to Athens on Monday, 1st February 2016. Our hosts were already waiting at the airport when we arrived. They drove us to Elefsina and welcomed us in their lovely homes.

The next morning we visited their school. After a quick prayer we had the chance to attend one of their classes, followed by a powerpoint presentation of Elefsina. Once we had seen most of the city on screen, it was time to take a short walk and admire the sights in real life. We saw the Archaeological Site and paid a visit to the local museum. In the afternoon we got the chance to decorate plates made of clay (the way they did it in Ancient Greece). We concluded the day with a traditional Greek meal - the so called souvlaki.

Wednesday was they day we visited Athens. First, we went to a museum and then we ascended to the Acropolis - which fully paid off because of the spectacular view the elevated spot had to offer. The Parthenon was under construction but we were still immensely impressed by its beauty as well as the huge number of other temples built on the Acropolis. For lunch we once more ate souvlaki and after dinner we learnt how to dance sirtaki, a traditional Greek dance.

On Thursday we drove to Sounion, where we could admire the remains of Poseidon’s Temple. Unfortunately, there were demonstrations in Greece that day, so the temple along with all the shops in Glyfada - a nearby town - was closed. It was still a lovely trip. On the way back to Elefsina we passed one of the biggest ports in Europe (Piraeus) and after returning to Elefsina we hung out with the other participants one last time and eventually said our goodbyes.

On Friday we travelled to Athens by train, then flew to Rome and finally to Venice where a van picked us up. We arrived in Ljubljana at about ten in the evening. We definitely reached the project‘s goals. In addition to Greece, we also got to know many other cultures. We connected and formed friendships. It was a nice trip that will definitely be remembered for a long time to come.
