School Closure (Coronavirus)
Like other schools and colleges across Slovenia, Gimnazija Vič followed the instructions of the Slovenian government and closed its doors on 13th March 2020. This decision was taken to protect the health of those who study and work in the school building by limiting social interaction in an attempt to halt the spread of Covid-19.
While the initial period of closure was planned to be two weeks, it is clear that things will not return to normal for some time and regular classes have been suspended for the foreseeable future.
We are fortunate to have an e-classroom system which has been used by departments across our school for several years so we were able to move quickly to an online system for distance learning. Through this established online system along with e-mail communication, social networking, and other available technologies, students are able to continue to follow the curriculum while also being in regular contact with their teachers.
In addition to the standard work which would take place anyway, our teachers have worked hard to incorporate aspects of keeping a record of and dealing with such unprecedented times. With that in mind, students have been working on projects such as diary entries, videos about their time away from school, health and hygiene posters, and a number of different schemes and activities to do with the promotion of good mental health.
These are challenging times for so many people and our thoughts are with those who are finding the current circumstances especially difficult. However, we are doing all we can to keep our students on top of their school work and to look after their general wellbeing. We very much look forward to welcoming them back into our classrooms again once the situation allows.
