Book Club donations
At the start of October, the Gimnazija Vič English Book Club arranged its first meeting of the new school year. Although the group has been running in some form for over a decade now, this marks a new type of organisation with a more structured reading programme for those students who are already very confident readers.
With a selection of books to be read together and discussed, book-related events taking place through the year ahead, and a chance for their own creativity to be put on show as well, there will certainly be plenty to keep us busy.
The books chosen for discussion cover a range of styles and themes so the group's mentors are confident that the students involved will enjoy the stories selected and appreciate the chance to read outside their usual genre comfort zones.
The first meeting of the group had the added bonus of the members getting a set of special gifts thanks to our friends at Little Acorns Bookstore in the city of Derry in Northern Ireland. Jenni Doherty, the shop's owner, generously provided a selection of bookmarks, postcards, and short story books to be enjoyed by those in the school who are most interested in reading for pleasure.
The items were immediately shared among the members of the club who were at the first meeting and more material will be given to those students who are part of our successful reading projects through the school year.
We have been so happy to have had this great level of support from Little Acorns Bookstores for many years now. We have been supported through both reading programmes and creative projects and we hope that this great connection will extend far into the future.
