Slovene Drama Group: Arsenic and Old Lace
On Wednesday 6th March 2019, the students of the Gimnazija Vič Slovene drama group, under the watchful eye of our mentor, Ms Alenka Zelič, put on a play titled “Arzenik in stare čipke” (Arsenic and Old Lace), a comedy by Joseph Kesserling.
The performances took place in the student theatre in the school’s main hall. Due to the high amount of interest, the group ended up putting on the show three times so that students and those from outside the school all had a chance to view the result of our hard work.
The months leading up to the premiere were both physically and mentally exhausting for the cast, crew, and the director. Practice makes perfect and so the drama club even met on Saturdays with the goal of perfecting our performance. All the hard work paid off, as we received thunderous applause and great amounts of praise from those in the audience on each occasion.
On the day of the premiere, after a successful performance, the crew and group’s mentor were all presented with flowers by way of saying thanks from the others involved. The Friday play ended with a curtain call for the cast followed by a special speech by Nik Klobasa in which he thanked the director, Jakob Mišič Jančar, and awarded him an “Oscar” on behalf of the whole team.
With this project now at an end, we can say that the play was a big success and everyone is already excited about what is to come next year.
